Two years ago, my son who was 3 years old suffered a serious allergic reaction after consuming a peanut butter sandwich. After that episode, he was given doses of emergency medicine and an EpiPen to carry along whenever he went. We were also advised to not consume peanuts in the household and to minimize eating out to reduce the risk of my son being exposed to the allergen, and having a life-threatening allergic reaction.

Last year, during a routine annual test, we were elated to know that his allergy score had dropped drastically. We were even hopeful that he would outgrow his condition. However, in December 2020, we were informed that our son’s allergy score had gone up. Seeing the result, the doctor shared it was highly unlikely that our son would outgrow his allergy and therefore, recommended that he go for an immunotherapy treatment.

I was reluctant for our son to undergo the treatment as it would require him to eat increasing amount of peanuts to build up his immunity. By doing so, he would be at risk of having an allergic reaction.

Our church (New Creation Church) has a custom in which every individual is invited to write down 3 prayer requests at the end of the year. During that period, the church came together virtually to pray for their 3 prayer requests. So, we also asked our son to prepare his prayer requests and he told us that he would like to be able to eat peanuts again. We encouraged him to “see” himself eating peanuts as a faith picture.

On the day our son was due to go for his first immunotherapy treatment session, we partook of the holy Communion and declared that he would be able to eat all things that the Lord has created.

At the session, he underwent a test to determine his threshold for peanuts, starting with a tiny amount of peanut powder. We were told that as long as he was able to consume one full peanut, he would have passed the test.

At the end of the test, he ate a total of 17 peanuts and did not show any signs of allergic reaction! The doctor then cleared him of his allergy and even called it a miracle! Praise the Lord for His faithfulness!
